On the strength of a 2-0 week the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team had a duo of freshmen honored with weekly awards by the ECAC Lacrosse League on Monday.  John Snellman (Norwalk, Conn.) was named the league's co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Charlie Cipriano (Williston Park, N.Y.) was selected the Rookie of the Week.

Fairfield posted a pair of wins on the week, both on the road to improve to 4-2 on the season.  The Stags defeated Marist on Tuesday, 8-6, in non-conference action, and then scored an overtime goal at Penn State for a 5-4 victory.

Snellman, a graduate of Norwalk High School, scored six points in the two games, to lead the team.  At Marist he netted four goals, with his final tally putting the Stags ahead for good, 6-5.  His lone assist on the week was on the game-winning tally at Marist.  Against the Nittany Lions Snellman scored with 4:44 to play in regulation, tying the score 4-4, and forcing the extra period.

Cipriano earns his third weekly honor and second Rookie of the Week selection.  He posted his third and fourth wins of the year, and did so making 22 saves.  He played all 122:40 in net for the Stags, with a .688 save percentage and a 4.89 GAA.  Cipriano has now made 10 or more saves in four games, and each of the last three outings, with 10 stops at Marist and 12 against the Nittany Lions.

The Stags play once this week, completing a three-game road trip at #17 Hobart at noon on Saturday.  Fairfield is atop the ECAC standings at 2-0, while the Statesmen are fourth at 1-1, with a 5-1 overall record.
