Fairfield Sports Information

Fairfield University freshman men's lacrosse player John Snellman (Norwalk, Conn.) added another accolade on Monday evening, being named the NEILA Player of the Week.  The rookie attack was selected as the ECAC Lacrosse League co-Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the afternoon on Monday.

Fairfield posted a pair of wins on the week, both on the road to improve to 4-2 on the season.  The Stags defeated Marist on Tuesday, 8-6, in non-conference action, and then scored an overtime goal at Penn State for a 5-4 victory.

Snellman, a graduate of Norwalk High School, scored six points in the two games, to lead the team.  At Marist he netted four goals, with his final tally putting the Stags ahead for good, 6-5.  His lone assist on the week was on the game-winning tally at Marist.  Against the Nittany Lions Snellman scored with 4:44 to play in regulation, tying the score 4-4, and forcing the extra period.

The Stags play once this week, completing a three-game road trip at #17 Hobart at noon on Saturday.  Fairfield is atop the ECAC standings at 2-0, while the Statesmen are fourth at 1-1, with a 5-1 overall record.
