Hobart-Cornell opener delayed, moved to Carrier Dome

Hobart lacrosse players, coaches, and fans will have to wait a little longer for the start of the Statesmen's 108th varsity season. Hobart was originally scheduled to host sixth-ranked Cornell on Sat., March 27, but the winter weather predicted to strike the Northeast this week has forced the game indoors.
The Statesmen and Big Red will now meet in the night cap of a lacrosse doubleheader in the Carrier Dome on Sun., Feb. 28. Top-ranked Syracuse will face Army at 3 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Following the conclusion of that game, Cornell and Hobart will meet at 6 p.m. in the season-opener for both teams.
One of the oldest rivalries in collegiate lacrosse, the Statesmen and Big Red will square off for the 130th time, but for the first time at a neutral site, with Cornell holding a 79-46-4 series lead.
Over the past eight seasons, Hobart and Cornell closed out the regular season against each other, but the Ivy League implemented a championship tournament this year forcing schedulers to move the game to the frontend of the slate.
However, his isn't the first time the squads have opened the campaign against each other. The Statesmen have played Cornell 13 times to the start the season, splitting the results 6-6-1. The last time Hobart opened the season against the Big Red was 1978, a contest the Big Red won 13-11.
Tickets for the doubleheader are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 12 and under. Parking for the doubleheader is $10.
Questions on tickets, parking or seating for people with disabilities, should be directed to the Carrier Dome Box Office at 1-888-DOMETIX.
